Work begins on cemetery damaged by Katrina, Rita

Work is under way to repair a Civil War era cemetery in New Orleans that was damaged by the Katrina and Rita storm surges.

New Orleans cemetery undergoing restoration

The Chalmette National Cemetery, which was damaged during Hurricane Katrina, is closed for restoration. The National Park Service says the restoration project will cost an estimated $7 million.

We all remember photos of coffins lying along roadsides after the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina in along the Gulf Coast. Now, thanks to the efforts of community organizers and activists, cemeteries in New Orleans are being returned to their former beauty.
